Citizen Watch Europe GmbH. the efforts to search for new opportunities began as early as 1918. In 1918, the Shoukousha Watch Research Institute was founded, from which later the CITIZEN Watch Co. emerging. In the 1920s, almost all watches existing in Japan were still imported from overseas. The first CITIZEN watch appeared on the Japanese market in 1924, six years after the company was founded. The price of this watch was about 20% of the monthly basic salary of the staff working for the government. Considering that the imported watches were considered a luxury product, the watch was quite affordable for the citizens. It can say that CITIZEN has opened the door for more people to buy their watches in Japan.
