Its proprietary Eco-Drive technology makes this possible. Eco-Drive generates the energy to drive the watches even from low light and stores the excess in a rechargeable cell. After charging, the watch can continue working for up to 6 months in darkness. No need to change batteries. We've been able to reduce energy consumption from Eco-Drive, so that complicated additional features like depth or altitude meter, alongside the normal time display function.
